SUMMARY:Through the Lens of Sonny Bernard
DESCRIPTION:George (Sonny) Bernard Jr. (June 25\, 1947 – May 15\, 2025) was a gifted artist whose creative spirit touched countless lives. He approached every project with deep pride and unwavering attention to detail. Through his lens\, he captured moments of grace and significance.\n\nGeorge’s early love of photography was nurtured by his aunts\, and he proudly preserved one of their original cameras as a treasured heirloom. As the first professional photographer in the African Nova Scotian community\, he leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire.\n\nBorn in Lake Loon\, George resided in East Preston at the time of his passing with his wife and life partner of more than 50 years\, Senator Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard\, their daughter Candace\, son in law David\, and grandsons Damon and Gavin. His family graciously donated his camera collection to the Black Cultural Centre\, hoping it will inspire future generations just as photography inspired him.\n\nWe hope you can join us on February 12th at the Black Cultural Centre for the launch of a retrospective exhibition of Mr. Bernard’s photography.
